ad CaeluM is an independent avant-garde metal project created in 2014 by Canadian musician Matt. Conceived as a personal artistic outlet, the project blends elements of Visual Kei aesthetics with alternative and experimental metal influences. Rather than functioning as a traditional band, ad CaeluM operates as a conceptual solo project in which different characters, themes, and perspectives are explored through music and visual identity.
The name "ad CaeluM," derived from Latin meaning "to the sky," reflects the project's foundational philosophy that creative expression should have no limits. Since its inception, the project has been envisioned as a vehicle for unrestricted musical exploration and deeply personal lyrical themes.
Although ad CaeluM has not released official studio recordings, numerous early demo compositions were produced during its formative years. These demos established the project's thematic focus on introspection, identity, and emotional conflict, often conveyed through lyrics that combine English and Japanese.
The project continues to develop its musical and visual direction independently, with plans for fully realized productions in the future.
About the Creator
Matt (also known as Caelum) is a Canadian independent musician from Ontario and the creator of the avant-garde metal project ad CaeluM. A self-produced artist and one-man band, Matt performs the primary creative roles within the project, including songwriting, vocals, and overall artistic direction.
Prior to founding ad CaeluM, Matt operated a video game cover project titled ''Miss Arcade'' between 2006 and 2012 with close friends. The project served as an early platform for developing his musical skills and production approach.
In 2014, Matt established ad CaeluM as a more personal and expressive musical endeavor. Conceived as a conceptual solo project, ad CaeluM allows him to explore darker and more introspective themes while blending elements of avant-garde metal and metalcore with stylistic influences drawn from the Visual Kei scene.
Matt's musical influences include artists such as the GazettE, coldrain, DEXCORE, Motionless in White, Bring Me the Horizon, and Magnolia Park. His work often incorporates theatrical and visual elements inspired by Japanese music culture, combining modern metal instrumentation with aesthetic influences that draw from punk, gothic, and elegant visual styles.
As an independent artist, Matt continues to develop ad CaeluM as a fully self-directed project, handling both its musical composition and visual identity.
